Preventive measures for Tick Borne Encephalitis (TBE)

The Do’s to prevent the Tick Borne Encephalitis (TBE) are as follows:-

1.    Cover exposed skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and hats.
2.    Avoid wooded and brushy areas with high grass, long bushes, and leaves.
3.    Use a repellent that contains 20% or more DEET for  protection that lasts up to several hours.
4.    Always follow product directions and reapply as directed.
5.    Use permethrin-treated clothing and gear (such as boots, pants, socks, and tents). You can buy pre-treated clothing and gear or treat them yourself.
6.    Bathe or shower as soon as possible after coming indoors.
7.    Check your entire body (under your arms, in and around your ears, in your belly button, behind your knees, between your legs, around your waist, and especially in your hair). Use a hand-held or full-length mirror to view all parts of your body. Check in particular : under the arms, in and around the ears, inside belly button, back of the knees, in and around the hair, between the legs and around the waist.
8.    Remove the Tick if you find one on your body with tweezers. Wrap the tick in some toilet paper and flush it in the toilet and be careful that it does not bite again..
9.    Disinfect the Wound by applying antiseptic like iodine or alcohol to the wound after removal of the tick.
10. Check your pets and belongings. Ticks can be on outdoor equipment and clothes.
11. Talk to your doctor or nurse if you feel seriously ill, especially if you have a fever.

The Don’ts to prevent the Tick Borne Encephalitis (TBE) are as follows:-

1.    Do not use permethrin directly on skin.
2.     Avoid applying repellent to their hands, eyes, and mouth. Follow instructions before applying on children.
